kengo-saito-1After some training on the Western Classical music on the Violin and on the Guitar, he discovers the North Indian Classical music. Soon he starts learning the Tabla and the Sitar in India and in France and meets his Sitar maestro Pandit Kushal Das. From then he devotes himself to the art of the Sitar and he acquires the great technical skills and the aesthetic approach to interpret the Raags from his guru. Today Kengo is one of the brilliant disciples of Pandit Kushal Das and giving lessons and workshop in France and performing on stage all over the world.

Recognized as a rare and a distinguished Rubâb player, Kengo plays the traditional Afghan repertoire with subtle nuances. He is trying to promote and represent the traditional style of the Rubab music which he has been learning from Daud Khan Sadozai, a disciple of the legend of Afghan Rubâb; late Ustad Mohammad Omar. However his flexiblility and his creativity leads him to collaborate and perform in different styles of musical identities going from Japan to Greece.

As a composer, he has created a number of original pieces influenced by India, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey and Japan. With his compositions, he successfully directed a group of musicians from different traditions for a UNESCO concert (Melody for Dialogue among Civilizations Association) in 2010, and for Aid and Relief Concert for Japan’s Tsunami victims in 2011. Dedicated to the classical and traditional music of North India and Afhganistan however at the same time he is deeply involved in today’s musical creativity. His works on arrangements of Japanese melodies for Rubâb are unique in its kind which reflects his Japanese root.

He has performed in various venues in France such as Musée du Quai Branly (Paris), l’Arsenal (Metz), Théâtre National Molière (Sète), Satellite Café (Paris), Musée Guimet Auditorium (Paris), Théâtre de Orléans (Orléans), Café de la Danse (Paris), Maison des Arts de Créteil (Créteil), Auditorium de la Bibliothèque François Mitterrand (Paris), UNESCO Auditorium (Paris), Festival Rêve d’aborigène (Airvaut), Festival Azimut (la Pesse), Festival au Palais des rois de Majorque (Perpignan), Festival de l’Oh (Val de Marne), etc., and in overseas like Ambassy of India Beijing (Beijing, China), Halfway House (Kumming, China), Visual Arts Centre (Hong Kong), Peninsula Hotel (Hong Kong), Eve’s Barn (Lancaster, USA), India Habitat Centre (Delhi, India), ITC Sangeet Resarch Accademy Kolkata, Weavers Studio Centre for the Arts, Palladian Lounge (Kolkata, India), etc.
